Canopy latch “detent”?

Is there supposed to be a detent for the canopy latch handle? My latch handle closes fine but will move off the micro switch in flight. I am thinking about remaking the nylon sandwich piece with a slight dent for the handle to sit in at the stop. I’m wondering if there is a better way besides creating friction on the handle shaft.

In the 12iS update there is a pin on the back of the handle that slips into a notch at the back of the latch block.

The latest version of the block is C-01205-3 as referenced in SB-00059.

Check out NOTIFICATION 17-12-08, get the retrofit kit (12 CANOPY LATCH/HANDLE UPGRADE).
It's a slick design revision (associated with 12iS and assumes N 16-20-03 and N 14-05-22 have been adressed), fairly easy install (drill out a few rivets) & works much better at full closure and the partially open position.
I won't mention that price has doubled since I got it.

Bob,
Can I assume you have personally done this conversion?
Yes.
I had added the canopy switch (N 14-05-22) and canopy catch (N 16-10-03) to the original "old style" install but had seen the improved handle so had to have it.

It depends on what version latch you have. The early OEM latches had a simple piece of flat plastic that had an upward facing lip that served to capture/hold the pivoting metal latch in the closed position. A number of changes have been offered by Van's over the ensuing years to improve the latching performance.

from Van's;
"Note: Other parts may be required, dependent on whether N 16-20-03 and N 14-05-22 have been installed"

What is N 16-20-03?

When I look up SB 16-10-03 it says to install F-1231G, put that number into Van's to see what it is and it costs $6.00 but no picture. I probably have it but can't be sure.

Check out N 17-12-08, Replace old handle and latch block components with revised components.
Step 1: Remove and discard the following: C-656 Canopy Handle, C-1215 Latch Handle Stop, C-1205-1 Latch Block, F-1231F-1 Latch Plate Arm, C-1214 Latch Block, F-1231G Canopy Catch and the WD-1218 Canopy Latch.

with the new latch kit, F-1231G is discarded ... I believe that's the old "shephard's hook thingie" that holds the canopy partially open?
The new canopy handle, along with all new components on the roll bar, replace all that (and work much better).
All this may be a bit confusing, but the new kit has all the parts you'll need.

That makes more sense.
