Installing VOR antenna on VS

I am installing the cat whiskers style VOR antenna on my Vertical Stab and I was wondering if those of you who have installed these, removed primer from the rib and doubler? Also, did you seal it after installation?
Thanks!

In case you are open to mounting ideas, I've attached a photo of my fabrication. I wanted to get the elements away from the vertical stabilizer and also made the cap removable. (Platenuts drilled from the outside but attached to the inside. Small cutout for BNC connector was filled and glassed after the everything was assembled.)

Instead of cutting for the integrated balun puck just make your our balun. Make a block out of phenolic for the antennas to mount. This will work for the narrow vertical stab and you only cut holes for the vor antenna. How it’s done on Cessna 152

My VOR is glassed into the wing tips and the ILS is glassed into the lower cowl. I forget who sells the kit to do this but it works very well. It is just some copper strips and wire fittings to a BNC connector for the ILS and 2 BNC connectors one in each wingtip for the VOR... After some research I find my VOR antenna is only in one wing tip.

They are called Archer antennas. Here is a link from Aircraft Spruce:
