Alternator for RV6A

Having an issue with the alternator and would like to just get a new one. There are no part numbers on it. It has a sticker from Air-Tec Inc 60 A (ND Alternator). I'm sure it's a Denso however everything I look at is different. The Company number is no longer (800-266-4746). Anyone know how I can get this alternator? Thanks

Take it down to your local Auto Electric shop (not auto parts store) & have it checked out. They can usually rebuild it right there.

A photo will be helpful. There are some automotive ND alternators in common use, we just need to see if we recognized what you have. Also need to know if it is external or internal regulated.

Update; Ralph replied as I was typing, yes, see if you have a local source that can repair it.

There is nothing near me to test it. I did find a place in Knoxville, bout 1.4 hours, I'll plan to take it there. Over my nearly 50 years and as I'm sure you know; most places will not repair it unless you are successful in telling them what it's for...and not mention an airplane. In this case, I called, they asked me several times and I skirted answering. I will try to take it to them, but it will have to wait till next week as I'm going on a trip to help move a 9A. Here's the pics, everything I find close has something different, shaft length, pully location issues, bolt diameter, spacing, etc. Hope this helps giving me some direction.

I have one I removed and replaced with new on my RV7A, but it is different also. Thanks again

auto zone
Part # 14946

the nice thing about overhauling the unit is it will fit without tweaking the brackets. get a new belt.

This is all very helpful. I will head to AutoZone tomorrow since I was not aware they would test. It looks the same, but I also have one that looks the same that is still new in the box from the previous owner of the plane. It's obvious why he did not use it:-). As mentioned, I went through this previously on my RV7A and, working with the auto parts store, we finally did find one after 3 attempts. They were all Chinese but...and I ended modifying the opening a bit so the plug would clear the stamping over the regulator. Thanks again, I'll update when I get it resolved.

Hi All
Finally got this project behind me. The recommended part number worked fine, which I bought it from Rock auto. I had to open up the mounting holes and change the pulley from the old unit. So far, so good. Thanks to all of you for your help.
