I never he the term ”Flamper” until today. Apparently, it is someone does airplane camping.

There was a pretty good article on the front page* of today’s WSJ about people who camp with their airplanes. Most of the article was about Osh Kosh. It’s always good to get some positivity press for GA in a main stream newspaper.

* The WSJ usually has an amusing soft new article at the bottom of front page

Ya. My co-captain sent it to me from ORD, I like the term better than “Glamping” for Big-A@@ RV’s

I see. Flampers are what I will hope to attract when I begin to rent out my barndominium and pitch it to the GA flying community. That has to wait until extended family vacates...

A quick search of "Flamper" on DuckDuckGo turns up only two matches - VAF and the Urban Dictionary where it is related to clothes hampers. Looks like not many will try find our little BnB using the WSJ's neologism as a search term, unless it somehow catches on.

The first rule of Flamping Club is: You do not talk about Flamping Club. The second rule of Flamping Club is: YOU DO NOT. TALK. ABOUT FLAMPING CLUB”

My wife had to explain to me that the writer was trying to be clever by combining Flying with Glamping. She then had to explain Glamping as people that “camp” with glamorus accommodations.

I hate when the media tries to coin a term for something, especially when the term become used by the general public. Terms only ought to be coined by those involved and not repeated by the media enough that it becomes a common term.

My bad. I typed in the search term, fat-fingered a misspelling, backspaced a correction, and in the process evidently threw the search engine a curve ball, getting very limited results for "flamping." Carry on.

I would guess we all are flampers at some time. I sure am glad the OP put a “p” in the word…….:ROFLMAO:

Saw the ULTIMATE Flamper at the airport, a camperized AN-2 with an 1100hp 331 in it on carbon fibre amphibious floats! I got to have good look and it has a lot of thought put into it such as dual Honda 2200 kW Gen sets with both AC and DC outputs to be an onboard start cart and house power, as well as thrusters in the floats to help with parking.IMG_2253.jpegIMG_2257.jpegIMG_2256.jpegIMG_2261.jpeg
