Vinyl Trim on Paint

When I bought my RV9A 2 years ago the seller had just had it painted. All Matterhorn white with grey wing tips and wheel fairings. That paint job cost the seller $10K. I decided to add little more color by adding blue and lime green vinyl strips on the wings and fuse. The stripes on the fuse and tail I had cut by Aerographics in Loveland, CO. It was a lot of work in the heat this summer but I think it turned out pretty good. So far it is holding up very good.

I like this scheme and the vinyl really makes it pop. Great idea for the color combination.

Dave,

My vinyl has been on for 18 years now- it's still hanging in there great. We are contemplating a new scheme at this point, and I'm touching up all the white paint in preparation

Looks great. Can I ask a question? What brand vinyl did Aerographics Use? In terms of installation, would you recommend it?
THANKS.

Would love to hear your preferred techniques & paint(s) for touch up work. I dabbed a little color-matched white acrylic enamel from the local auto paint store on some very small wing leading edge chips a while back. This worked much better than I expected, but I don’t think this is really a long term solution. 🤣

Probably depends on the base paint, I used PPG single stage auto paint (no clearcoat) and it is easy to fix dings and get a rattle can and then cut and buff to blend the patch. mine is all white with vinyl stripes etc. so much easier I suspect.
Figs

I used PPG single stage off white and then added a vinyl stripe. Very happy with the results and it's holding up well.

I specified the type of vinyl because I wanted to match stripes I had already put on the wings and horizontal stab. The vinyl was 3M scotchcal electrocut 7125 series graphic film.

Same as Figs- SS white car paint has really held up well - I still have the original paint and got new catalyst and reducer- dab into small spots and spray and blend if required for larger areas.

My -7 Is wrapped and striped with 3m 1080 vinyl, which has been replaced with 3M 2080. Only dif. with the 2080 is that it has a protective film which is peeled off after application. 7 years (hangared) and still looks great.
