Flew to Lee Vining, California (O24), with view of Mono Lake.

Bus (YARTS) up to the Tuolumne Wilderness Center to grab my backcountry (Wilderness) permit.
Up to Nelson and further remote lakes.

Great exploring, fishing, and relaxing. So easy, so close with the 7A.

100 hour/Annual inspections for me. After waiting 6 weeks for the winter weather to clear I started the inspections only for the weather to come perfect while the aeroplane was in bits. Argh!

Installed the second SUREFLY, added the manifold pressure line for variable timing, changed the dip-switches on the original SIM for variable timing and then installed a Monkworkz generator for backup electrical power now that I'm "electrically dependent". I'm so pleased I added the inspection panel to the top forward fuselage skin. I nearly didn't, antagonizing over it for weeks when I was building. As it turns out, its a godsend when doing this kind of work.

While working through the wiring yesterday one of the guys from another hangar called in and invited me to go flying in his DA62 Diamond. It was too good an opportunity to miss so I put the wire strippers down and went for a scenic flight over the Southern Alps. He was very generous and let me fly the entire 1.5 hours. It's a beautiful machine... stunning... but I'm not selling the RV-6. I'd compare it to the difference between flying a Lamborgini vs flying a Rolls Royce... and I'll take the sports car any day! The RV-6 is faster, climbs quicker and is much more responsive... but I admit there is something to be said for arm-chair comfort, twin-engine safety and a packet of chockky biscuits.

Not a big deal for many, but I did the following:
-figured out updating charts on my GPS and PFD!
-added air to all 3 tires, did not even do that in 4 yrs owning certified.
-hoping to get out with my wife and shut the doors and get magnetometer calibrated.

Completed a BFR (or flight review now?) on Saturday. All good for another couple of years. That's sorta hard work, at least for me. I had a great new-to-me CFI, but it still stresses me out a little.

Went out and shot some practice approaches. I had company, so a few impromptu holds were in order. 🤣 We worked it out okay. Felt good to get the rust off. And the buttons on the refurbished 430W were smooth as silk! Looking forward to another 17 years from that box. 😃

Night flight to San Luis Obispo, sans Favorite Copilot, who was driving up with mom and his sister in the car. They got turned around near Lake Cachuma due to a traffic blockage; I left the house 3 hours after they did and still arrived at the FBO early enough for them to pick me up as they drove by. RV-6 FTW…

Looks like fun. I have spent a lot of time in the mountains between Tahoe and Whitney. Always fun and looks like you had the place to yourself!

Did the annual in March and with everything pulled off and out, I try to change or update something every year. On top of new brakes, spark plugs, oil and filter, recharging the K&N filter, I installed new hinge pin covers from Aerosport. I participated in the fiberglass class at Oshkosh so felt pretty comfortable doing it, came out pretty good need some refinements. Installed new valve covers and their Lycoming Intake Flange Kit from Racetec. Installed another cowl flap from AntiSpalt. Went out yesterday for the first time since annual. Very hot, 100 degrees. Taxied to the FBO for the EAA meeting. After the meeting taxied out to the active, checked canopy, the bolt had fallen out of the handle. Taxied back, installed new bolt and lock nut. Taxied back out. Oil temps and CHT's stayed below 380, huge difference for my plane, RV9A, Lycoming O-320. During mag check a lot of sputtering on left mag, did a lean on run up, cleared it right up. Onto the runway for takeoff cht's got to just over 400, huge difference in temp, usually running 420 on take off roll. Did 2 stops, CHT's never an issue, so good to see normal temps on a very hot day. Plane flew wonderfull!!

I was honored to be included in the weekend celebration/recognition of combat injured warriors and Gold Star families at the WWTR (wounded warriors to remember) weekend at Middletown, Ohio. These wounded warriors and other Gold Star families were honored at this event. Several of us were able to provide airplane rides. Most of them also made tandem parachute jumps with Start Skydiving (local). This entire weekend was for honoring those that have given so much for the freedoms that we all enjoy. It was an honor, and I hope to be able to participate next year.

This'll never stop being amazing:

Flying 450 nautical miles IFR from Bankstown (YSBK) to Kingaroy (YKRY) in comfort, full of airshow collateral and baggage for a 9 day trip, then unload, brief, and fly two airshow practice sessions without having to refuel. In the same airplane.

How many other airplanes have that mix of capabilities? "Total performance." Just incredible.

Our Freedom to Fly Display Team has been in Kingaroy for the weekend putting the finishing touches on our routine for the Pacific Airshow on the Gold Coast, having been invited back after last year's appearance.

Yesterday we transited VFR in formation to Southport (YSPT), which will be our base of operations until the end of next weekend.

We're the largest civilian formation display team in the Southern Hemisphere, a Yak-55 and a dozen RVs. We are amateur aviators trying our best to behave like professionals, representing General Aviation and aircraft homebuilding to the most diverse aviation audience in the country. We're expecting more than 200,000 people to see our routine this weekend, and the message we're sending is that we're not special, anyone watching can do what we do, you just need the right aircraft, the right training, the right spark of inspiration, and absurd quantities of aerobatic smoke oil.

Follow us on Instagram, @freedomformation. This week's gonna be huge.

What is the that single tab (VG ?) just outboard of the fuel cap for?

Thx!

I think it's an Australianism.

Our gas pumps have a bonding strap which we click to the exhaust. The nozzles have another earth clip which you bond to the tank before you crack open the fuel caps and let the vapor out.

I don't think it's done elsewhere in the world. One of those things our Department of Civil Aviation would have thought was important in the late 1940's that's been "grandfathered in" ever since.

Awesome!

My wife was trying to convince me to fly over for the weekend and attend the show and TBH it was really tempting. It was a close thing, but maybe next year. Your performance would be a show highlight for me.

Good luck to you and your team for the event, I hope you have clear skies and no wind.

this is my first time visiting chatham ma kcqx on the cape. the food at hangar 6 was the best. after eating we flew up the coast towards ptown looking for whales but had no luck. from there up to 4,500 direct Hartford ct.
