I'm interested in learning more about typical empty weights of 3Bs with day/night VFR equipment and FP prop. I'm also curious about what kind of maximum gross weights people have on their CofA.
I asked Van's about max weights and here is their reply: "The designed gross weight of the RV-3B is 1100 pounds, we can not and will not approve a number higher than that. This however does not limit the builder from registering the aircraft with the FAA at a higher number. Legally the builder is the manufacturer of this aircraft and in turn the FAA will allow any number they choose for the Gross weight. This however does not mean the airframe has ever been tested to that."
The owner of a 3B that I was looking at said his maximum weight was 1350-1400 pounds. I'm just trying to wrap my head around what others are doing.
Thanks for any information you can provide. If you'd rather not make your numbers public here, please PM me. Confidentialty is assured.
