A friend of mine is building a -8 and is now ready to make the intersection fairings.
We've found the lower ones in Vans catalog, but not the upper ones.
What have other 8 builders done? Can -7 farings be modified to fit for example?
Here is Bob Snedakers' Fairings-Etc. upper gear leg fairing for the Grove airfoil type gear. Shown here and right out of the box only loosely attached to my -8, its fit is already excellent. Mine are now attached with 2 screws that are generally out of sight. On the lower surface, one machine screw ties into a nutplate I attached inside the lower cover plate and the other fastener is a #6 sheet metal screw located towards the aft end of the fairing. http://www.fairings-etc.com/
If you are using Van's standard gear legs on your RV-8, you may need to try the upper intersection fairings from Aero Strategies unlimited (http://www.aerosu.com/index.htm). Although Fairings, Etc. makes wonderful intersection fairings, and I used their lower intersection fairings, their upper fairings did not fit my standard Van's gear legs. The fairings from Aero Strategies unlimited fit well.
