When are these riveted?

On page 22-07, there are three rivets on each side of the forward bottom skin that are called out as "do not rivet". The upper of the 3 is added when the side skins at installed on page 23-07, but I haven't found any reference to the remaining rivets and I'm now well into section 39. I can't imagine why they were left uninstalled in the first place unless I've missed something. Have I missed anything, or should I go ahead and install LP4-3s and forget about it? I emailed Van's a couple of weeks ago, but I guess this is too small of a problem to get a response.

I can't recall when those get used, but trust the documentation and leave them open.

You could fashion some little red flags to give you peace of mind that you won't forget them before your first flight. I used some red paint and marked up clecoes to be placeholders in Do-Not-Rivet holes when I needed them to prevent myself from forgetting about them later when I was just mindlessly placing rivets.

I'd also say trust the KAI on this, and leave them open -- I put a strip of blue painter's tape over them so I wouldn't install rivets. Can't find in the later KAI chapters when they get filled, sorry.

I seem to remember those three rivets aren't installed in Section 22 because they interfere with the F-1202E-L & R installation in the following Section (23).

See KAI 23iS/U-05. The rivets can be installed after the F-1202Es are installed.

Thanks everyone. I have been sticking to the plans, but as you know there are oversights and inconsistencies and this seems to be one of them. Seems I can safely replace the clecoes now. I've thought about starting a thread with hints about discrepancies in the plans to help other first time builders get through some of these puzzles. Maybe when I'm done building....

I use a bit of red tape for that sort of thing. Red electrical tape (by 3M) peels off easily later.

There's a builder at https://docs.google.com/document/d/...3VE/edit?pli=1&tab=t.0#heading=h.8cjx6syeyzvz who has done some of that. For the 14 there's a superb Wiki with almost every page of the KAI corrected. Would have been a big help on the 12.
