Moved the RV-4 from Southern CA to Northern CA.

Perfect day to fly .. very little wind at altitude, smooth, and always fun to get back in the airplane after a bit of time away..

Finish work

After Wednesdays move from home garage to airport hanger, final assembly began in earnest on Saturday. Tail feathers mounted, rigged and marked complete. Fitted the empennage cover and will need some trimming before paint.

Clicked over to 40 hours right as I began G-load testing. Still have a bunch of max gross weight and CG limit testing to do before I log the magic words and exit Phase 1.

Magic 40!

Clicked over to 40 hours right as I began G-load testing. Still have a bunch of max gross weight and CG limit testing to do before I log the magic words and exit Phase 1.

Congratulations! Keep up the good work and keep us in the loop! No pun intended....;)

= 79.43" aft of datum for empty C.G.

Side gig, but saw some RVs

Thanks for starting this week's thread Josh!

I was busy all day Saturday flying SIC on a Citation V side hustle. Picked up some pax in Fredericksburg, TX to take them to CO (the hat pic).

They were giving Young Eagle rides I think in Fredericksburg - planes taking off every couple of minutes it seemed. A few RVs mixed in with the Cubs, etc. Got a couple RV pics before the clients arrived. They looked to be having fun!

Sunday forecast 102*F. Our 4 bird baths are full of water and we're hunkered down under the a/c vent <g>. It's a VAF work day for me anyways....under the vent typing. <g>.

FU :Smoke in METAR

Last Friday, went for a short hop because the day was so nice except for the premise of forest fire smoke. Notice the yellowish tint on the horizon. They are still burning with a vengence up here.
Wanted to burn some more 100LL this Sunday morning to further test the new GoPro, but we're in 1 1/2SM FU all morning here...

Clouds and pancakes!

Another pancake breakfast for my wife Linda and I. This one North of Buffalo. Had fun dodging clouds. It was 2 beautiful flights there and back. My first time flying over Buffalo. Met my friend Paul(fellow RV9A owner) there. He's in the pic. Keep those rivets going people. This is so worth it!

My old Garmin VIRB camera finally died, so I'm fussing with a brand new GoPro 11 Black, trying to find a good mount to capture the G3X Touch full frame with minimal distortion. Not there yet... The radio is recording nicely, but the intercomm is not. Next flight is to swap headphones and see if that helps.

The purpose is to document little-known characteristics of angle of attack, characteristics not peculiar to my installation. My Oshkosh presentation (10 AM Monday in the NAFI tent) is already bordering on too long, so I don't know what additional video I'll be incorporating. But the presentation is very, very strong and should be informative. Original research can do that.

Still working on it

Pounding those rivets in the Texas heat. Got most of the right side skins on the -10. Left side was done last week. Looking forward to joining the tail on soon.

And making my packing (and shopping) list for Oshkosh!

Took movies of the Rocky Mountains with the GoPro 360 (and hobnobbed with the big boys at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport):

I flew down to Las Vegas for the weekend and enjoyed the view of both Arches and Canyonlands National parks. Average speed 143 kts there and 195 kts coming home, quite the swing.

I gave my son’s other instructor a ride in the RV. I’ve been my son’s primary instructor since the beginning, but I have used other instructors to assist with his training. Tom, the other instructor, is relatively new himself. He’s a 40 something in the middle of a career change.

His only experience thus far has been in Cessnas and a few Pipers. We did the usual air work and let him get a good feel of the aircraft. He was interested in aerobatics so we did a little upset recovery training followed by a bunch of maneuvers. We finished it off with a nice river tour.

This was his first time in an RV, first time in a taildragger, first time doing some aerobatics. He said it was the most fun he’s had in an airplane! With 50+ RV’s on the field, he now understands what it’s all about!

Young Eagles Fredericksburg

Thanks Doug, we flew 62 young folks in a little over 3 hours. We only used two 4 place airplanes. Several Cubs, RV8, and others. It was busy, we’ve been doing it twice a year and are beginning to get the routine figured out.
