IMG_4075.jpegI hope it’s OK that I kick this off this weekend. I’m assuming Doug is busy with family stuff.

On a whim, I decided to head to Steamboat Springs, CO (KSBS) for the 4th celebration. They’ve got a live band playing 80’s music. Lots of stuff I haven’t heard since high school. (Not that I’ve actively been trying to hear any Cindy Lauper.)

The flight over was fantastic. My little RV3 came through again cruising between 12,500 and 13,500’ on the way over. 95 degrees in Denver today. It’s 69 degrees here in Steamboat as I type this. Headed home (CO12) back to my endless list of projects on Monday morning.

I planted the seed. Doug watered it. Now we're into the next generation.
Congrats & thank you!

I didn't do anything with my RV this weekend. But, I did fly my Legend Cub, and park next to an RV. And, What better way to celebrate Americas 250th than to take the Legend Cub for a flight? Especially fitting given that the former owner of this airplane was a four star general, who was a Vietnam POW for 7 years. This airplane, spec’d by him, is painted in a scheme reminiscent of his Air Force trainer.

Hope you have a nice Sunday,

[SPX posted the very first WDYD post, and I asked him if I could continue it weekly. It’s nice to know somebody will fill in with WDYD posts when I’m on line trimmer duty LOL. Appreciated. dr]

Our team was busy on both the 3rd and 4th with almost 5 hours of formation flying in 2 days. Lots of good pics came back and reviews and a lot of smoke oil consumed and not much team for beer.

Bit of formation here in the antipodes too.

Western Sydney Airport is about to open. New international airport with new controlled airspace. Most of the Sydney area has been class G airspace for the last century or so, but that all changes this Thursday. Very constrained airspace picture, with predefined "coded clearance" routes for VFR traffic.

So, a bit of a last hurrah: Dov, Martin, Glenn and I flew 4-ship across Western Sydney with a 500' low pass down the Western Sydney Airport runway for the very last time.

Verboten from 07081400Z forevermore.

It's either the end of an era or the dawn of a new one. The ATC folks seem like they're as confused as anyone about what's going to happen on Thursday, and we'll all quietly expecting near-misses and VCAs while everyone comes to terms with the new constraints. Fingers crossed!
