If I understand what you're asking, it's basically can the VPX act as a voltage regulator? If so, the answer is no. The field power is supplied by the VPX to the regulator, but it will not act as the regulator.
The VPX has an overvoltage sense that releases the field on a B&C regulator (and others) setup. I've been using the VPX Pro for 2 years and it's been flawless. It's really well thought out and easy to install.
Maybe they can throw in a few chips and make it an option at a later date. Most new cars have the PCM controling the voltage that goes to that spinning electro magnet rotor.
