Using Washers instead of .025 strips on Rear Window

I don't like the look of the strips the I made for the inside of the rear window. I was thinking of just using Pop rivet washers on each rivet to spread the load. Has anyone done this without problem? At .025, I can't imagine that the strip is doing anything more than the washer would do.

Curious what others have done here.

I made five separate strips with a one hole overlap at each "joint".

It was much easier to make this way. I also intend using #6 screw and nuts.

I used enlarged ( 3/4 " OD ) washers and #6 countersink bolts and nuts.
Enlarge holes in plexiglass to give it room to give a little. Don't over tighten
bolts. Also used a clear marine sealer between skin and glass.
