Using Freeflight 978 for new 406 ELT GPS input

Flying again!

Well Known Member
I just bought an ACK E-04 ELT. It has the ability to take GPS input. Does anyone know if you can take the GPS output from the Freeflight Ranger 978 ADS-B box and use it for the ELT. Has anyone done this yet?

The alternative is to take a $80 GPS receiver and wire that in with another antenna.

Thanks -- TJ

The manuals for both devices will tell you what formats they output/recieve.

The model E-04 ELT will interface and recognize EIA standard RS 232 data at 1200, 2400,4800, and 9600 baud from NMEA 0183 sources.

The FF outputs GPS data only at 19200 baud using the FF/Chelton protocol.

So the answer is no.
