On Christmas day my cousin Gabrielle and I finally made hard plans to go flying after years of talking about going somewhere together.
Our destination of choice was Mystic, CT via KGON (Groton, CT). It fit the bill for a perfect first flight in the RV. Lots of things to do locally, not too far away and a great scenic flight over NYC and the southern shore of CT.
Loaded up and ready to begin the adventure!
It was a perfect day to be in the air. Clear skies and a tailwind. We were scooting over the ground at 200 kts the whole way up.
Base-to-final for KGON.
We arrived in Groton much earlier than we expected. We had some time to burn so we headed up to the Foxwoods Casino. After searching for the elusive $10 blackjack table we settled in and gambled for while trying to subsidize our trip expenses. Between the two of us we netted $75! Time was ticking and we were hungry. Time to scoot down to Mystic, CT.
Our dining destination for pizza was Pizetta. Gabrielle is a vegan and has strict diet requirements. This place was amazing. Both pies were out of this world. I would dare say it's the best pizza I have ever had.
Anywhere I go, I like to pick up some local beer. While Narragansett may not be considered by most to be a beer worth transporting between state lines, I rather enjoy it.
Our time in CT was coming to an end quickly as we needed to get home while it was still light out. As if our day wasn't amazing enough, the FBO, Mystic Jet Services, gave us two free nice T-Shirts because we filled the crew car up with gas!
We went low on the way home to minimize the headwinds. We took the Hudson river corridor southbound.
Did Gabrielle have a great time? Absolutely!
Here's a video I put together of some of the video and stills we took.

Keep banging those rivets folks! It's totally worth it.
