Trimming the aft canopy deck

I'm looking at drawings 18 and 25 to trim the aft end of my left and right aft canopy decks (tip-up). The drawings are a bit confusing, as it appears they are showing only the right side, but then have comments about the left side (drilling to the longeron before trimming).

My question is, when all is said and done, are both the left and right sides trimmed the same? I can figure the rest out from the drawings.

Yes, both left and right side aft canopy decks are cut the same. Here is what they are supposed to look like after the cut:

Make sure you trim for the canopy version you are getting. There are some differences from that aspect but the left and right are the same.

How did you elongate the hole to make the slot in the canopy deck? I attempted this with a die grinder and wrecked the deck. I ordered a new one but need a better approach.

I used a dremel tool with a narrow cutoff wheel. Once the slot is there, you can use a small jewelers file to bring the slot out to the correct width.
