Trimming front corners on canopy

I could use a little nudge on the canopy fitting of an RV-12iS, specifically 39iS/U-07 step 2, which says, "Using a "Sharpie" pen, mark the canopy with the location of the center of the tube (if they are not concentric). Also mark on the canopy the amount of trim required at the forward outboard corners. See Figure 1"/

It's the trim part I'm not sure of, mostly because Figure 1 has a callout of 1 3/16 between two lines but I'm not sure what those those lines are referring to. It looks like it's the top of the canopy notch and what, exactly?

My canopy hits the edge of the frame as it crosses over there so I know I have to trim something but I don't want to start removing any material until I'm sure what that bottom line on the Figure 1 is pointing out.
