When initially fitting the engine baffles, the ubiquitous paper clip can be an excellent time saving tool to assure a sufficient and consistent clearance between the baffles and the lower surface of the upper cowl.
Just barely insert number of paper clips onto the upper edges of the baffles making sure they sit upright and proud, then temporarily set the upper cowl in place. The paper clips will be pushed down onto the baffles thus giving the builder a fairly accurate way to determine how much material must be trimmed away to assure adequate clearance prior to installing the rubber seals.
