I admit this isn't as pretty as some slider canopy handles but, it sure is strong. I purchased the no weld handles from Aircraft Extras http://www.aircraftextras.com/Handles1.htm with the intent of using them in their intended fashion, across my windscreen roll bar. However, during the course of building my slider canopy I realized an exterior handle of sorts, as others have done, is almost a necessity. I found a good use for one of the handles on the rear deck of the slider canopy.
The handle penetrates the first surface of the steel tube and is fastened against the inside of the opposite surface (ref: install instructions) This makes these handles stronger than they look, and in this application transmit absolutely zero load into the adjacent Plexiglas.
The height can be modified as you see fit, this is the result of the stock handle: Could fit some big mitts in there
