What did you do with your RV this weekend? (March 16 - 17'ish)
Update: RV-4 #4175 Fastback Conversion
Small progress today. Made a work platform and riveted some angle supports for it. might need to make another, but I'll deal with that a bit later if I need it. Did some more cutting and have a plan for the flanges on the bulkheads to take up the extra space from the bulkheads since the RV-4 is wider than the HRII. Still trying to sort out exactly how I want to handle bulkhead F407. The longeron slots that come standard from Harmon have the bulkhead sitting much too low for the seat back without cutting at least an inch off the seat. I need to move the bulkhead up a bit anyway to get the canopy transition line I want so I have a few ideas for that. I'm also planning to attach F407 at a slight angle to avoid some binding and chafing with the canopy after discussion with HFS. Canopy is also on order finally so should have that in a couple weeks hopefully.

I added a spring to the handle shaft and positioned the block so it won't turn accidentally. You have to pull down to rotate the handle to the locked position.

I really could not decide if I wanted to ride or fly today ... so figured why not both? And since my friends were riding today, why not go try and find them? (Turns out that the iPhone camera zoom is good enough to get a reasonable photo of them) Headed out to the desert, but not much...

My 4 is down for a bit for a several little projects, like elevator reskinning due to some cracking, adding a light to the tail, possibly electric trim, fiberglass repair due to some less than perfect fits over the years, etc. While it's down, I decided to make it way worse for time and money...

I finished Section 21 a while ago, but I noticed these three holes not riveted. I looked at 21 page 8, which is where the flapperon mixer box gets attached to #3 seat rib. Looks like I didn't take the LP4-3 TYP note liberally enough, or do these get riveted elsewhere. It's not explicitly called...

STUPID mistake: closed canopy with no one inside
Hello fellow builders The nightmarish scenario is happening now . I closed my tip up canopy and the lock got engaged . Urghhh!!!! I saw a post of how someone had the same issue and solved , however the pictures got removed because of old post . I have a slot opening on left side because I...

Official construction is beginning, but an issue right out of the gate?
I picked up a mostly unfinished complete airframe kit and the previous owner only did the first few steps. I’m now getting into it and finding that 609pp does not touch the radius of 603pp. There’s about an 1/8” gap from the edge of 609 to the flange of 603. All of the build vids I’ve seen so...

Riveting VS root rib rib, nose rib, and forward spar
I am getting started on the final assembly of the vertical stabilizer and have hit my first snag. Riveting VS-705, VS-704, and VS-702, I'm having trouble getting my hand squeezer to sit on the rivet cleanly without either deflecting the nose rib or creating a smiley on the manufactured head of...

It’s Dan’s fault
That’s right. It’s Dan’s fault. He has made me look at protecting cables and pad hoses against heat failure. And I want to say thank you. The throttle and mixture cables have some shielding from the mounting bracket but for a little added insurance I added a stainless shield between the...
