…RE DIY Desiccant
Such a device is simple and cheap to make. Only expensive part, relatively, is the silica gel (a lot cheaper 4 years ago). I use 15 lbs in a closed container and pump the dry air through the engine with an aquarium pump. That much silica...I only need to recharge the stuff every few months when it turns orange. I have no concerns leaving it run 24/7/365 pumping air with 5% relative humidity through the engine's dipstick.

20 Years on with a car engine
Flying a Subaru powered 9A with an NSI package and still having fun. Plenty of excitement with engine failures due to my incompetent tuning but hopefully have just about achieved reliability. Max speed about 163 KIAS and just under 2000 fpm (with 1500 lb) at 2000' but very pleasant at reduced...

Tank repair - inboard rib - cut proseal (how?)
I'm sure this has been discussed but my search came up empty. Issue: RV-6A tank, leak at inboard rib nose. I've been into it twice trying to effect repairs, but it hasn't been successful. I'm thinking it is time to just extract the inboard rib completely, fully clean up, and install a new...

Oil sump heater usage
I’m sure this has been discussed in the past but I’m going to ask the question again. I’ve got the Reiff Hotstrip Oil Sump heater on my engine. Is there any reason why this can’t be left plugged in during the winter months? Here in Oklahoma the weather in January, February and early March...

Lyclone likes low lube levels.......
At 2700 hrs we overhauled the Titan O-320, and since then, she has used a qt of oil every 10 hrs like clockwork. However, since the 3000 hr oil change, she has gone over 33 hrs and has burned 5/8th of a qt. Here is the difference - at the 3000 hrs, I started adding 1/8 qt only when the oil...

Aft Canopy Skirt Sikaflex - Rivets??
I'm finally at the point of being ready to attach my Aft Skirt to my canopy assembly using the Sika 295UV. Yesterday I got the side skirts attached. I still have a little bit of finish work on the Aft skirt piece but I'm wondering if I want/need to install the rivets that attach my fiberglass...

Get the cap all the cool kids are wearing! I don’t get a penny. It’s around $15. $5 more if you want your N-number on the back (I put 'STAFF' on the back of mine because it makes me laugh. Put STAFF on yours too if it makes you smile). And down the road $10 to the charity of your choice...
