Testing the Starter

Well Known Member
Can I safely test the starter if I have the necessary clearance around the prop in the shop. I'd like to pull the top plugs and just quickly test the starter under a small load to ensrue everything works before taking it out to the airport.

We do it all the time in the shop at work. Granted, it's not a garage, but as long as nothing is in the way, go for it!

Hold onto your hat!!

Jim, I turned mine over much the same way. First I turned the prop by hand to pre oil the engine, then cranked it with the starter. I used mine to get oil pressure. It won't be much of a load on your starter. With the plugs out, it will blow your hair...................I said your hair........not mine, mine has long gone down the drain:(

Jim, was your engine pickled? I would pull the bottom plugs and pull the engine through several times by hand before using the starter.
