Temporary bolts for center section

Flying Scotsman

Well Known Member
I'm working on putting together the center section, and the two pieces need to be bolted together with the spacers in between it seems.

I'd rather NOT put the NAS close-tolerance bolts in, so what does everyone else use to temporarily hold everything together during construction? The NAS bolts have diameters like .4365 IIRC, which doesn't look close to anything one could get from HD or Lowe's or OSH...

Any suggestions are, as always, greatly appreciated!

go for the real bolts

Hi Steve - I agonized about it, but I ended up putting in a couple of the big bolts, with boelube. They tap in somewhat smoothly, or you can turn them in gently. The boelube helps. It worked out fine. BTW - I didn't bother with wood spacers... I made some out of hard AL tube and put them in with hardware store bolts in the smaller holes. Seemed to work fine.

Good luck
