Tail bulkhead SB info

Mike S

Senior Curmudgeon
I recently helped my buddy Steve do the tail bulkhead mod on his 10.

Steve did not feel it was necessary to remove the tail, and peal up the aft fuse deck, so he thought up an alternate method of accomplishing the task.

What he came up with was a spacer plate so the doubler could fit on the front of the bulkhead, and all work would then be able to be done from the front---as in crawling into the tail cone.

Good thing the tail cone is large inside.

Here is a shot of the i/8" spacer used to position the doubler on the front of the bulkhead, lets the doubler sit flat on the angle at the top/front of the bulkhead, and the center hole is large enough to allow the reinforcement ring in the bulkhead to fit through. Note the spacer is shorter than the doubler by the width of the angle. The doubler was used to drill the spacer with a drill press.

Also, a thicker piece acts as a bit of a drill guide.
