Tachometer signal for G3X with electroair ignition

If anyone has the G3X with electroair ignition replacing one of the mags, please let me know whether you used the Garmin tach pickup (mounted on the remaining mag) or the tach output from the electroair control unit. Latter seems cleaner and more reliable with the drawback of going off when the electronic ignition is shut down for the mag check. Any feedback appreciated.

Hello Bob,

As you have correctly identified, you will lose the RPM gauge when you turn off the electronic ignition if you don't use the hall effect sensor in the magneto, so you won't be able to properly perform the run-up and evaluate the magneto performance when operating with the electronic ignition turned off.

All of us with one magneto and one electronic ignition of any kind end up needing the hall effect sensor in the magneto.

For those that don't know, the hall effect sensor continues to provide a good tach signal as long as the magneto shaft is turning, even when the p-lead on the magneto is grounded.
