I now have 20.7hrs on N456HL. Everything is working out well and the Dynon skyview is fantastic! I have a 7A with a O-320 D3G 160hp and a ground adjustable Whirlwind prop.

Test were made with 1 pilot and full fuel. Altitudes are Density altitudes.

5000ft, 65%, 144KTAS, 5000ft, 75%, 155KTAS

7500ft, 65%, 145KTAS, 7500ft, 75%, 161KTAS

10000ft, 65%, 156KTAS, 10000ft, 73% WOT, 164KTAS

12000ft, 66% WOT, 163KTAS

I am pretty happy with these numbers. The D3G is a bit more thirsty than I anticipated, but it runs well for a half time engine!

Hi, nice aeroplane and looks like good numbers to me. Could I ask you where you got your standby altimeter and what brand is it.:) I like the look of your panel.:)

Altimeter and Airspeed

Hi,
the altimeter and airspeed are 2 1/4" UMA's from aircraft spruce. They seem to work fine.
I also have the short James cowl on this plane and a cowl flap. the cowl flap is a must as I see high CHT's at climbout, even with the flap open. I have adjusted the gaps between the cylinders and baffles, and I am still tweeking this to get more even temps. If I do a power climbout I will see about 405-410 on #1. #3 used to be the hottest, but with more of a gap behind the cylinder it dropped, but #1 went up...
Overall it works fine. The 2 axis autopilot works great too.

At 20 hr on the engine, it should be broken in and not consuming too much oil. It's probably thirsty because your still running it full rich. Try leaning it out a bit. At 20 hrs is should be OK to start leaning..... Put a pair of electronic ignitions on it (like P_MAGs) and you can probably lean it out lean of peak. I have an IO-360 with dual P-MAGs and generally get 7.2 GPH down low at 75% power.....

Engine

Well, as I mentioned, my engine is a half time engine with 1020 hrs on it. Compression is great and the engine runs wonderfully. I agree with the P-mags. Mine is carburated so it will be tricky to run lean of peak.

I do lean it is as much as I can.

Book numbers for the D3G are 10gal/hr at 75% and 8.8 at 65% and that seems to be the case. Very similar to a O-360 as I had in mine previous aircraft, a C177 Cardinal.

Down the road I might have Lycon do some magic on the engine and soup it up to around 190-200hp, still reliable though.
P-mags is also on the wishing list as well as a constant speed Whirlwind.
