Slider canopy center strip gasket??

It seems like it would be a good idea to have some sealant under the center cover strip on the slider canopy. Is this necessary or recommended? Based on info I've picked up on this forum, I'm thinking Lexel might be the right thing to use. Looking for suggestions, thanks.

I used Lexel for both the center strip and under the back skirt just for good measure. Worked fine.
