sky-tec starter issue

i have a sky-tec 149-12XLT STARTER all it does is spin. will not engage. any ideas on what the problem maybe and where I can get the part. trying to get to OSH.

Broken end of "plastic" plunger on the starter solenoid.

Verify that it looks like this -- circled in blue:

Autozone, OReilly, etc etc. Borg Warner S5613 Starter Solenoid.

If not, then it's something else damaged in the pinion gear pivot assembly in the starter, which will necessitate replacing the whole starter assembly.

IIRC. These starters have shear pins in the gear. There should be an extra or two taped to the side of the starter in case you shear one.

I found my spare shear pin stuck to the inside of the starter mount housing. IIRC it was held in place by a dab of silicone or similar. Once the starter is removed, the shear pin can be seen and used to replace the old pin. My understanding is that this shear pin helps to protect the started in case of a misfire / kickback.
