Shortening RV-12 Exhaust Pipe

Just finished up installing muffler and sensors which turned out a little easier than I had expected.

Curious about views on whether its worth cutting the exhaust pipe back to the min. 4" cowl clearance specified in the plans. Is this mostly for appearance or is there a measurable performance impact? I suppose I could always trim it later if I choose to.

I doubt that it does anything for performance, but the longer the pipe the harder it is to get the bottom cowl on and off. We cut ours to the 4" limit and it made getting the cowl on and off easier.
