Seat Hinges in RV-7

We are just about ready to attach the seat hinges to the seat pans and we noticed that if we use the 7/8" distance between the nutplate line and the end of the hinge, it puts two of the holes on each hinge very close to seat rib (as in we would have to drill through the seat ribs with all the hinges). If we go to 3/4 instead of 7/8, it works much better. Looking at the drawing, it indicates 7/8" Typ. - What does that mean? Does that mean we have some flexibility? Is there a problem with placing the hinges at 3/4" instead of the 7/8" Typ., as described on the plans?

Closer is OK

7/8" is the minimum spacing. Adjust as needed, using closer spacing. My RV-6 was not pre-punched and I am guessing that the -7 is not in that area also.

Denny look at the plans again. You will see that the 7/8 dimension is not the nutplate line but the edge of the pan. The nutplate line is the 7 5/8 dimension line. This has tripped up a lot of fellow builders.
When you see the designation (Typ), what this means is typical. Meaning they will give you the one dimension and it is typical for each part. Meaning the dimension given for the one hinge applies to all the hinges but only listed once.
Hope this helps.

Denny,
Just did this. Yes, it's 7/8" from the edge of the seat pan and the measurements all worked fine. The aft floor hinge does have three rivets that go through the ribs. Backdrilled through the pan. Marking a centerline on the bottom of the aft hinge and sighting it through the bottom of the pan before any drilling helps ensure it's at the proper distance aft and that the three hinge to pan to rib rivets line up with the other hinge to pan rivets.
