Saturday Seattle Flying

The late Fall weather has finally gotten to our Seattle area but Saturday privided a nice window to head out for the $100 sausage and eggs. I'm working through my list of those I promised rides, so on Saturday, Brandon Seltz, one of our MS Flight Sim developers met me out at Auburn for a ride. Since we were early, the plan was to head to Chahalis for some cheap(er) gas, then up to Bremerton for breakfast with John Adams (RV-7) and Dave Parsons (RV-7A). Brandon is a pretty good photographer, so we joined up on John for a couple minutes for some air-to-air after breakfast at Bremerton. Don't bag on me too much, my form skills are still a little rusty!

Brandon get's all the credits for the photography (but the local scenery doesn't hurt)!

As always with Flickr, the slideshow is the best way to view them:

Guys what kind of weather phenomena it that? I mean cloud formation. Looks like air is still in the mountains.

Lenticular or Standing Lenticular...

Altocumulus standing lenticularis (ACSL), Stratocumulus standing lenticular (SCSL), and Cirrocumulus standing lenticular (CCSL).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenticular_cloud

Glider guys love 'em, but power guys tend to avoid. The associated rotor cloud under them and immediately downwind of the mountain can provide an extremely rough ride. Lots of interesting information and pictures of this type of phenomenen on the web....
