RV8 Gear Tower Modification

I know, an old thread. I have been dormant in the building catagory for the last 10 years, been flying my first RV8. Anyway just picked another kit and going to get stared on.

Regarding the gear tower mod, why not cut the cover in two locations above and below existing cutouts and install a doubler plate top and bottom and replace all the rivets with screws?

That’s what I did. Used structural screws in place of the rivets.
Also, that way is difficult if you have a quicker-build since the towers are done. Easier to do the cover over the joined holes on a QB.
