RV-7A Rudder

I have purchased a early (2001) RV-7A empennage kit from someone and have completed the horizontal stabilizer. The kit came with a early Rudder model and I was wondering if I should order the upgraded rudder, which will cost a additional $350.00, or simply build the original one to use on the airplane?

I use the original 8 rudder on all my 7s. I think it looks far nicer than the whale-tail 9 rudder. It's also about 1/2 pound lighter - way out there at the rear where it helps keep the empty c.g. forward (good policy in a 7). Unless you like fully developed spins, I don't see the need for the larger rudder.

I have a completed 9 rudder. Maybe an exchange, you pay freight both ways as boot for my building it for you?
