RV-7A pitot tube question

Mike Coady

Well Known Member
Does the tubing for the pitot tube need to be flared in the fittings. The plans does not say but it seems like this is a must.

flare is required

If nothing has changed, you will need to flare the tube.
Just a note, I found the SS pitot tube that Vans sells to be a "must do" upgrade.
The aluminum one was fragile.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks, I couldn't see it any other way. And I also saw the stainless streel tube in the catalog. The aluminum looks and feels very fragile. I'll probably get the SS. I'm new at this and I have a lot of questions as I am building. Thanks a lot!

pitot ss upgrade

...yes i have bumped the alum. pitot a few times, and then after bending it back, feared I'd be approaching 20 kts too slow!!
somethin more skookum greatly desired!!!!!
....I didn't know there was a choice!?!
...oh, Santaaaaaaaaa............

You can...

flare the tube but it's not required. There's about as many different install methods as there are pitot tube options available. I've even seen slip tube removable pitot tubes that work very well. :)
