RV-3: No Smoking!

Why is Iron Smiling? Because power is now up on the RV-3?s Main bus, and all of the magic smoke has remained within the boxes!! Note the power on the G3X, GX Pilot, ADI, and the avionics stack between the leg wells.

At 1400 Central time today, we put external power on to the Main, Essential, and Avionics busses for the first time, and everything powered up as expected ? no sparks, no shorts, and no dead units. Of course, it remains to be seen how the boxes talk to one another, but that will come with a lot of configuration work. So far, all indications are good that the wiring works and power is flowing where it is supposed to go. Next up is to finish wiring up a few panel switches and terminating the wires that go to lights and such out in the wings. Firewall penetrations for sensors will have to wait until the engine is in place so that we know where we can drill. And there is still work to be done for the stick wiring, flap and trim systems, etc. but getting the avionics up and running is a great first step!

Citation guys....

...are going to be drooling over the littlest Van's that could:)

Paul, Jr. must be the most well-equipped -3 on the planet!

Congrats,

Very cool Paul. That is a major milestone! No magic smoke!

Is that the fire wall forward package in the left hand corner of the picture? You are gonna need a long extention cord.

Have you been borrowing parts from work?

Looks like somewhere there's a Shuttle with a few holes in its panel!

Woo Hoo! It's always nice when the magic blue smoke stays inside the box! It's looking good Iron!

P.S. I really like the "footwell lighting" you've installed. Makes it easier to find the rudder pedals, for sure. Not many people think of the little things like that... :p
