RV-12 Interior noise level

A flying friend bought a new DECIBEL METER, and he went up with me to test it out. We found that on the ground was not much less than in the air.

At alt, and 5100 RPM = about 110 decibels.

On ground taxiing = about 105 decibels.

Not sure how this compares to other planes, but his meter was new, and it seemed about right to me.

Be interesting to measure once the interior is in. I'm putting mine in now...I'll have to see if anyone around here has a meter. Darn, and I thought I was through learning how to read all meters. Isn't that what "multi" means?

The -12 is loud, for sure. A good pair of ANR head sets should come with the kit!

decibel meter

There is a free iphone app that will give you the decibel count in your airplane. There is one that gives the readout digitally, but cost a little. My RV 6 readout is 90 DB at cruise. Th Zulus take most of this down to a very acceptable level.
