how much have people trimmed of tailpipe to get bottom cowl off and on , no problem until you fit the cooling duct

Basically, trim so you can get the lower cowel off easy.

Yep, we cut ours as well. We talked to Dick VanGrunsven who did the same on his plane, and actually took off a bunch more than we did. We took just enough to get hte cowl on fairly easily.
