Reworking older (batwing) wingtips

I like having my landing lights in the wingtips. Has anyone re-worked the older (batwing) wingtips to increase the notch cutout from 4-1/2" to 6", which looks like it would match the newer 715-1 straight trailing edge wingtips? Techniques? Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

It would be easy

Not a big deal.

Mask off the size you want (need).

Dremel cut the tape line.

Block sand to clean the cut line.

Get blocks of foam and fit for the and depth of the joggle line for the lens. Install from the inside.

Use cut strips to form the joggle and the flats of the sides. You probably need a few thicknesses.

Remove the foam, or make even with your cut line before you glass.

Lay in some more glass from the inside with extra strips in the corners.

Done deal. A couple day project at the most.

The other thing I have been thinking to do with my older tips is to put the landing lights in the space between the cutout and the wing. It will require a custom piece of clear plexi, but it would give much better access for the lights.
