Replacement for Terra Comm Radio-2 1/4 round?

Bob Martin

Well Known Member
My hangermate has a long-ez with a Terra comm radio and it has bit the dust and he needs to replace it and we haven't seen anything the same size so he has to alter the panel to accept a 2 1/4" round radio.
Does anyone recommend one over the other??
We see the following:
Xcom 760 appears less expensive and has the desired feature of monitoring the standby frequency.
Becker AR 4201-also has the standby frequency
Micro Air 760--looks good with just the flip-flop.
Any others?? or opinions?
Thanks in advance for sharing,

I had the Microair radio in my 9A - it wasn't a great radio and I would not install one again. The XCom looks like a neat unit and has some cool features, but it was not available when I found myself needing a radio. I know they had some initial problems with their delivery dates during the development process, but apparently there are lots of them in the field now.

Must it be round

The terra is a 1/2 width rectangle shape. Why round? If you have no room a Terra is the best replacement for a Terra. I have seen Terra COM's for sale on Ebay?

Can you just put a standard 6.25" wide standard radio in, somewhere else? You have some real nice standard sized com radios that are real slim. The ICOM is only $600-$700 on sale and works well. If you want round there is also Narco Escorts, also found on Ebay, but they are not great radios. From what I read any of the small round radios tend not to be as reliable or have the features from what I have read. Cheers George.

Thanks for replys guys

Thanks for the replys guys....yes, the long ez has limited panel space so size is a big consideration. He hadn't thought about used terra via e-bay, but that could work. also good info in the small ones.

ACSpruce strikes again with a current catalog price of 694.00
and online :
X-COM 760VHF TRANSCEIVER 11-02206 $1195.00
go figure???

Thanks again for the replys guys,
