Replaced the crank

Smilin' Jack

Well Known Member
After waiting 30 weeks for an engine shop to replace my Superior should say ECI crankshaft affected by the AD we picked up the engine in boxes and brought it back home.
RB Aviation,Richard Buice came to my hanger and we assembled the engine with the new crankshaft.

Had the engine back together in a couple day and another 2 weeks went by to wire up and install everything.

Ran the engine up but the prop control would not cycle.

After another 2 weeks we finally found the problem.
Not the prop governor that was sent iff to check it
Not the drive for the prop governor.

Would you believe that the plug in the crankshaft about 6 inches behind the prop
flange want not installed correctly and popped crooked in the crankshaft
After exhausting everything else we pulled the prop for the 3rd time and Nick Syracuse came to see and saw the plug was installed by the crankshaft manufacture incorrectly.

After he called an engine shop in Newnan Georgia they told him how to set it against the flange.

Well that did it so 8 months after taking the engine iff we finally flew it on the 27th
