removing the accessory case

I have to remove the accessory case on my engine and remove the mag gears and anything else that needs to be inspected/magnafluxed after a mag shaft failure. Is it preferable to do this with the engine still on the airframe or do I need to remove the engine for better access to the back? I'm not at the hangar looking at it...

you do not need to remove the engine.. it'll be a PITA but it can be done w/ the engine installed.... Of course, sump has to go off first.. after you wiggle the exhaust out of the way.. Fun job :)
