Removing "HOLD" and "RELEASE"

How are you guys removing the "HOLD" and "RELEASE" markings from the elevator trim control assy? Acetone and MEK do nothing.
PS - Loews has 1" dia black plastic hole plugs 2 for a buck to cover the trim button hole.
