Prop recommended?

We're in the middle of building a RV7. We have a Continental IO360 from a Skymaster for it. We know that using the Continental is frowned upon, but that is what we have. We are starting to look around for a constant speed prop, can anyone recommend one?

Thanks

I would suggest calling some propeller shops. Few if anyone here will have experience in your setup.

We will all be interested in how it turns out so do return with results!

I assume you already know that the prop governor that came with the engine works "backwards"; you'll need a new one for a conventional single engine prop.

Prop me up...

Mike,
The Continental IO-360 setup for the RV-7 should use the same prop as the Swift with the IO-360, the McCauley 44-D. Another option is the MT-3 Blade. As mentioned above, if it's the front engine from a C-337 you won't have too much trouble adapting it aside from the engine mount issues and cowling fit. An RV-6 had one installed several years ago and it had several "bumps" on the cowl others don't share, in other words, ugly. Aside from that, a greater concern is the IO-360 has had several major crankshaft AD's recently. It's also very difficult to air-start if the need ever arose.
Here is a great article discussing this:

My advice: Sell it and buy a Lycoming!
It will have better resale and you'll be happier in the long run. Trust me...

Continental IO 360

My experience running a Cessna dealership shop where we sold skymasters plus maintaining and flying this same engine in Senecas, Mooney 231's, Turbo Arrows & others tells me not to install in a RV. Later versions of the engine were more reliable than the problematic early ones. Almost anything is possible with enough time, effort and money but I'm not seeing the upside. I'm with Smokey and say pass on the hassle and turn it into cash for a Lyc.

Down under RV6...

Thanks for the replies. ive been searching for the RV6 running the continental, but haven't found any info on it.

Here are several links that might help. #2 is a great thumbnail sketch of weights and HP. The Cont IO360 is heavier than a Lycoming for starters.
AD's and crank issues are another bucket o' worms altogether...Good luck :)
