Piano Hinge Frustration

I'm working on 29.02 Step 02 and step 07
If the 26 F1201J hinge is 26" long why is Figure 3 Showing a hinge barrel at both ends ?

What am I missing ?

Note: in Figure 3 the last hole at both ends is under the hinge barrel

I worked from revision 2 of the plans which call up a hinge length of 25.5". When I tried to fit it, it was 1/2" short, and I had to re-make one at 26". I assume the plans have been revised with a new dimension in Fig 2, but Vans didn't go as far as re-drawing the picture.

I wasted two hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.
A simple note on the drawing would have been nice.
