Jay Pratt gets the credit for the first pictures

He sent me three this afternoon. :)

OK, the ball is rolling and I’m looking forward to seeing pictures that get added.

I hope everybody has a wonderful time!

Just two RV-8’s……

OK, we’ve been talking about getting these two RV-8’s together for a photo shoot for something close to 20 years…but it never happens! This morning I taxied up to Homebuilt HQ, and the only airplanes in front were the Delta Dyke (that’s always there) and the Doll…no one was out there directing me to a spot, so I saw what I wanted, and took it! Beautiful Doll and the Valkyrie!

15 hours later and the Brantel crew is parked on 5th between Elm and Cottonwood. First year for me in an RV with street tires!

Funny thing is….30 minutes after setting up camp, it starts raining!

No cookies for me this year Tanya

I will miss your cookies. I will not be at Oshkosh this year. It has been a 31 year consecutive run, so I am taking a year off.

One sure fire way to end a drought is to park a bunch of airplanes close together…..

Welcome to Oshkosh!

Was in the conga line when the Bonanza battalion (all 120 of them) hit, and Fisk Approach decided to send all of us in a Nascar lake loop. By that point, cells were brewing over Puckaway Lake, which I had no desire to fly through in order to keep my spot in line.

I broke out east and puttered around until the airport opened back up, then rejoined a new line that formed at Endeavour. I was just passing between Puckaway and Green Lakes, threading between cells, when Fisk then said they were completely shutting down due to weather. A whole gaggle, including me, made a bee-line for Fond du Lac (and I mean full throttle 150kts+ at 2000 feet). Landed at FDL, and tied down the plane in 20 minutes flat, thundering all around. The cousin, who drove in to the show (issues with his own bird) picked me up.

I'll move the plane up probably Monday. My first volunteer shift in the South 40 is tomorrow.

Wouldn't be Oshkosh without a threatening-severe storm...

Saw the storm coming so decided to close the canopy and put the canopy cover on. This is what the approaching storm looked like.

Friday flying to position for OSH Saturday arrival

Been flying the same RV for 25-years and over 3,500 hours. Been to 49-state.

Saw the most headwind east of the Mississippi on my first leg to OSH this year. Attaching photos so you can see IAS, TAS, GS, and Winds aloft calculated by Garmin. G5 shows 42 Kt headwind almost on the nose. Also showing engine monitor so power setting and fuel burn can be seen.

Arrived this morning (Saturday) at 0810 local. The conga line was spaced out evenly from Puckaway Lake all the way in, with everyone flying the arrival, and ATC doing an awesome friendly job. Couldn’t have worked out better. When they parked me in HBC, They put me right next to Louise Hose’s beautiful RV3. She was trying to take the perfect picture of her bird at Oshkosh, and I ruined it by blocking her view for the shot. Sorry Louise.

Not much to see yet from OSH in this thread, but more to come. I’ll try to upload some pics from the beer tasting tomorrow. Part of the problem is uploading pictures is difficult from here. I’m using my iPhone as a hot spot for my iPad because the EAA WI-FI isn’t that good. But so is about a million other people, so cell tower band width is limiting.

After the storm…

A new day dawns

(Still working on my photo posting skills)

Base for 36

We were base for 36 when the tower reported 36 knot crosswind….ahh, maybe not. Tower had the same thought and sent us on our way.

The I flew my RV to OSH again Smile

I love the feeling when I shut down in my parking spot after the trek from SoCal. Love meeting new folks like Jim here. Former NAVY F4 combat pilot. I love AirVenture.4A737391-CA59-4802-8447-3EDEF567F077.jpeg

....he titled this 'Artsy Fartsy pic for today' in the text he sent. ;^)

Opening day here at Osh and it’s booming. The crowds are huge and the vendors came in force with big displays all over. IMO this year is shaping up to be one for books.

RV-15 engineering changes

Here are most of the RV-15 engineering changes being made.

Also heard the test pilot say the aft fuse is getting stretched 5” (I think that is what he said).

[ed. I embedded a few of these so you can see without clicking some of the pictures Brantel was kind enough to take. And THANK YOU Van’s for labeling the changes to the prototype!!! Clicking image will give you a much larger version. v/r,dr]

Spam can

I loved the comment by Jay Pratt in his video about the ‘’Spam Can’’ ..:

Not that we don’t like ‘’Spam Can’’ pilots .. everybody can dream about being a RV pilot

Bruno

[ed. That spam can was Jay's BTW. Makes it even funnier. v/r,dr]

Any idea what these are for?

Pics a little dark, located RV-10 area HBP. ~1/4 tubing with a screen covering the end. Located one in each upper air intake.

Turbo inlets for the hyper cooling system for the beer cooler in the back.

Only used for OSH trips :D

Thanks for the great picts— I wish we were there.

Re: Rv15 tail being lengthened 10”— my rv10 barely fits in my tiny Port a Port tee hangar.

Although it’s easier to back a tail dragger in; is it going to fit in a T Hangar?

I plan to be at the Van’s forum Tuesday morning and will attempt to YouTube Live the event. As many of you know, cell coverage and WIFI is spotty at AirVenture. Hopefully it will work out…..

My channel is linked below. I am not monetized so no worries there!

https://www.youtube.com/live/gO1pKlyPqvk?feature=share

If it does not work, sorry in advance!

Probably feeding shrouded injector nozzles, aka turbo nozzles, as they are standard in applications where manifold pressure can exceed upper plenum pressure...they would be tied to turbo outlet pressure. Here they guarantee all three nozzles on that side have the same nozzle bleed pressure.
