Nose wheel question

RV-12 assembly manual, 35iS/U-02 step 4 says to remove the special washer and the nut next to it from the TR-67 vavle stem before assembling the tube/tire/wheel.
Why is this? The special washer and nut seem to fit nicely in the Matco whlnw51cc nose wheel.
Matco tech documentation for the TR-67 valve installation, but not particular to the whlnw51cc, says to use the washer and nut.
In general I trust what Vans says, but I’d like to understand this.

I hope somebody knowledgeable with the facts chimes in ... I have wondered the same thing.

I had the same question. I think one reason you remove the nut and washer is because when you inflate the tube, it will push the nut against the rim on the inside allowing for possible chafing. Also, without the nut, you get more length on the stem which helps with getting an air chuck on it.

Matco Tube Installation Drawing indicates only the cap and flat nut on end of stem should be removed Shoulder washer and nut flush on tube should be left on. It helps to keep tube from rotating in tire on rim. KAI's specifically refer to manufacturer instructions if different than KAI, so I left them on. - JJR

Thanks
Actually the washer and nut seem to fit very nicely in the hub flange hole, so no chaffing and no tube pooching into the hole.
