Nose wheel leg nut very tight

Hello guys,

I'm working on the nose wheel leg and trying to fit the fork and nut. The hex nut at the bottom is very tight. I could hand-tighten it about half a turn, and then need quite some force to continue. I don't think I'm crossing threads. Lubricating doesn't help.

Is this normal?

This does not sound normal. At some point you will have resistance from the washer stack, but the half thread you are talking about seems too soon. Take a close look at the threads.

I remember having a hard time getting the nut to thread on and it was because of some of the powder coat got on the threads and was creating an interference within the threads. I bought a thread file and gently removed the paint until it could thread on easily.

Thanks! I suspected the same thing. Will give it a try.

There is a travel/brake out force 18-20 lbs in the maintenance manual.
But this break out force comes later into play as it concerns the resistance for the wheel mount not the nut/washers. The brake out force of the wheel mount will later be adjusted by thightening/loosening the nut, but it is not a nut torque (unless I got it wrong).
