Nose gear tie down

Has anyone used the nose gear tie down ring? It looks like it could come in handy against possible micro bursts which could push down the tail when tied down. Or is it for securing while trailering, or what else.

I've used it to winch the plane up a trailer ramp. Also once or twice as a tie down point when parked in the open and to secure the plane while transporting it.
