When I first flew my RV-12 I was annoyed by noise generated by the lower firewall in front of the co-pilot seat at some engine RPMs. Quite a large area of this lower firewall is un-supported and free to vibrate. I feel it would be easy for Van?s to fix, they could press some channels into this sheet when they stamp it out as they did on the upper firewall. Maybe the later kits have been changed .
I fixed the problem by riveting a piece of light weight aluminium angle diagonally across this area as I have seen on Cessna 150s.
I now have nearly 60 hours up and she is running very smoothly and much quieter
