Need help with tip up canopy restraint

I am ready to fab the linkage that holds the canopy open. Obviously a string that will break for a jettison option is the simplest. Gas struts are cool , and would consider that if someone can suggest the layout and strut specs. However, the folding metal linkage I recall in pics seems robust, light, simple with no preload on the components. So does anybody have some solutions to share for the RV4 tip up ? Pics would be very helpful :)

Larry,

I have what you're looking for in my 1994 RV-4. It's been working great for 26 years now. Sadly, I couldn't find a photo.

If you send me your email or phone number, I'll send you a pic and some dimensions. [email protected]

This is what I'm using copied from a fellow RV-4 who copied it from someone else. Simple, works great, light and cheap. Lowes or Home Depot cabinet department.

I built this when I was barely 30.... seems like an eternity ago.

When the canopy closes, the bar virtually disappears in line with the rollbar.

RV4 canopy

Great idea, gettin started on a 4 project when Vans starts shipping parts, question, does it require a nudge to collapse when closing the canopy, or just move on its own.

Chris,

Maybe I got lucky, but it requires a small nudge, which means that it has been remarkably resistant to blowing shut inadvertently. Nonetheless, I don't leave it open if it's windy.

I used a very similar set up on my Rocket with similar good results, and plan to do the same on the next one.
